Teacher's tips

Level of education: Elementary School I

Age: 05 to 07 years old

Reading should be part of the classroom routine. In this proposal, it is necessary to read the word and associate it with the corresponding image, establishing relationships. The game can be proposed individually or in pairs. In pairs, children have the opportunity to interact and exchange ideas and knowledge. Encourage them to talk among themselves to decide what the name of each of the drawings is, relating the sound of the words to their spelling. It is important to highlight the writing possibilities of each child, so that the exchange of knowledge between them advances in learning. [FIM-DICA]

Suggestions of approaches for the teacher

(Suggestion 1) As a record, ask the students to copy the words that appeared in the round (while one child uses the mouse to play, the other copies and then they switch positions). In the classroom, propose some activities with the words they copied.

(Suggestion 2) Read each word and illustrate.

(Suggestion 3) Write another word with the same initial.

(Suggestion 4) Separate words that have the same number of letters

(Suggestion 5) Dictate words for the colleague of another pair to write.

(Suggestion 6) Create a sentence with each of the words.

(Suggestion 7) Use clippings of letters and words in magazines in order to form known phrases and words.

(Suggestion 8) Next, ask students to answer word searches.

(Tip 9) Use crosswords.

(Suggestion 10) Take the students around the school and write down the names of everything they find.

(Suggestion 11) Illustrated dictation: place several drawings on a sheet and ask the student to write the name of the corresponding image.

(Suggestion 12) Play Hangman with the students.

(Suggestion 13) Promoting the activities of assembling and disassembling words with the movable alphabet, with letters made of paper, plastic or wood, allow the learner to experience, in a very rich way, a series of decisions about how to write.

(Suggestion 14) Work with students on the following questions:

  • Does everything have a name?

  • Why do we name everything?

  • Why don't all things and people have the same name?

  • Are there the same words with different meanings?

  • Who names things?

  • How many words are there in our language?
