Teacher's tips

According to Vygotsky (1994), motivation is one of the main factors, not only in learning but also in acquiring a foreign language. The use of games as an instrument for teaching English makes the classroom activity more engaging and the student more interested in assimilating content and vocabulary. Games are instruments that act as facilitators of this knowledge. With the use of recreational activities, the teacher can also choose to gather students in groups, providing interaction and sharing of information between them. [FIM-DICA]

Suggestions of approaches for the teacher

(Suggestion 1) For English work in the early grades, it is always important to ask students to repeat the pronunciation of each vocabulary out loud as they play.

At school, this game can be proposed individually or in pairs.

As a record, at each move, the student should write the name of the animal on the sheet. Afterwards, each student will read the names he wrote and the illustration.

(Suggestion 2) The game can also be explored as a homework activity, using the notebook. A suggestion to complement the game's content is the construction of a memory game where the student must find the pairs: animal names written in English and the image of the animal.

(Suggestion 3) Elaboration of CARDS (cards with direct and illustrated information about the content, where you place the image and the word of the corresponding image).

(Suggestion 4) Use word searches.

(Suggestion 5) Ask 2nd year students to create comics. Even if it's just a few words, encourage them to build and write the words they already know.

(Suggestion 6) Use crosswords.

(Suggestion 7) Hangman game.

(Hint 8) Take dictations.

(Suggestion 9) Construction of an image wall with words in English.

(Suggestion 10) Mime game. In this activity, students should form a circle, where only one student at a time will get up and mime in which students guess. Students guessing must speak the answer only in English. Choose just one theme to properly guide the game.

(Suggestion 11) Work with songs in English. Select songs from the children's everyday life that allow the identification of words already worked on in the classroom. To compose the activity you can print the lyrics and ask the students to follow along. Then have students circle the words they don't know the meaning of. Afterwards, ask students to look up the words in the dictionary and write the meaning in their notebooks.

(Suggestion 12) Use the Duolingo application as a complementary resource for learning the English language.

(Suggestion 13) Promote activities to complete the sentence, inserting two words at the end of the sentence, one being correct, the other not).

(Suggestion 14) In the handout below (pages 66, 67 and 68) use the activities to reinforce the content.
