Teacher’s tips

Level of education: Elementary School - Early Childhood Education

Age: 04 to 08 years old

All literature, and literacy, is born out of the human need to tell stories, tell stories about oneself or others, tell stories about the world to better understand our existence, others and the universe in which we live. Stories are part of our essence and help us to grow, develop, be aware of risks, be more critical or just for entertainment. Encouraging reading is fundamental to the good development of children. Literature needs to become a habit in the lives of little ones.

Learner outcomes

Develop text reading and interpretation; Understand the use of the alphabet in the construction of words; Expand vocabulary; Stimulate the imagination; Stimulate creativity; Participate in different moments of reading; Develop attentive listening to understand texts; Develop and improve oral and written language; Read different types of short stories;

Teachers’ goals

Work on reading and text interpretation skills; Provide, in a playful and creative way, the progress in the reading and writing process of children; Expand the class's repertoire of letters and words; Offer the game as a didactic resource to fix the content worked in the classroom; Awaken the habit of listening and feeling pleasure in situations involving reading; Provide contact with texts of literary quality;

Suggestions of approaches for the teacher

Before taking students to listen/read the stories on our website, it is important to instill curiosity and stimulate the imagination of the class. Make suspense, tell what the story is about, ask what they think will happen? Let all the children participate, if they want, by suggesting parts of the story.

Then divide the class into pairs or small groups of 3 students. According to the objectives of the class, there is the option of listening to the story (which will be read by an announcer) or reading the story.

Proposing the reading, ask the pair or group to take turns on each page or paragraph.

The option to listen to the reading of the story also works on the proper way of reading, intonation and punctuation. This stage is important for the analysis of the children, who must read the same way, respecting each score.

Below we have brought some suggestions to complement the activity.

(Suggestion 1) Ask students to make an illustration about the book.

(Suggestion 2) Ask second-year students to copy the words that appear in the text in alphabetical order.

(Suggestion 3) Ask students to compare the story of the “Amazing blue shoe” with the story of Cinderella.

(Suggestion 4) Ask students to search for the names of superheroes who have some kind of power involving speed.

(Suggestion 5) Research the slowest and fastest animals in the world.

More about it

We indicate using this book in an interdisciplinary proposal with the content of physical education.

In this proposal, students should be involved in various activities, such as: running, soccer circuits, jumping rope, among others.

1st step: Research together with parents and/or teachers about the types of sport that involve speed.

2nd step: Research about Paralympic speed sports

3rd stage: make a mural with drawings and clippings of the researched sports.

4th stage: propose a competition among students similar to one of the sports.

It is interesting to include some other playful element such as egg race, bladder pop race.

5th Make a culmination at school talking about the importance of sports.
